Signed Shirt Raises £200
The signed ICC World Cup 2007 shirt raised £200 for Society funds after it was raffled at the final dinner of the 2007 - 08 season. Signed by amongst others, Sir Ian Botham, Michael Holding, Daryl Cullinan, Michael Atherton, Tony Cozier and Jimmy Adams, this is a unique shirt. Tickets for the raffle were sold at each of the dinners during the season. The winner was Society member Michael Cartmell. Read a report and view picture of the presentation
The shirt was kindly donated by former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams and is signed by many of the TV commentators who were in the Caribbean for the tournament last year. It was mounted and framed by Ian Austin and Society member John Cotton's sports memorabilia company Sports Legends Limited. The Society would like to express their gratitude to both Jimmy and Sports Legends Limited for their donations.
Names in the Frame
As the 2007 - 08 season concludes, names for guest speakers for the 2008 - 09 season are already in the frame and include hopefully Jeremy Snape who was forced to cancel his visit this season and Henry Olonga.
AGM 2007
The Annual General Meeting of the Society was held at Blackpool Cricket Club on Thursday 4th October 2007 at 8pm. All members were invited to attend. The Societiy's reports were read and seconded and the Committee re-elected. Mr. Nev Adams was welcomed as a new member of the Committee. The programme for the 2007 - 08 season was agreed.
The Society has recruited a number of new members during the summer months and the Committee looks forward to welcoming them to the dinners during the winter months.
The November dinner will be a special Memorial dinner for Doug Wilks who passed away in January of this year. Special guest speakers Arnie Sidebottom and Jack Birkenshaw are confirmed. It is hoped that at least one other speaker will be able to attend. Sadly, ill health has prevented Doug's very good friend Don Wilson from attending. The Secretary wished Don a speedy recovery on behalf of the Society.
