February Dinner

19th February 2009

Harold "Dusty" Rhodes

RIVALS OF LONG AGO

At our meeting last evening, following an excellent dinner, our Chairman David Lee was delighted to welcome an old adversary from his early junior cricket days in Derbyshire.

Harold "Dusty" Rhodes who played for England and Derbyshire gave us a most interesting insight of life in the county dressing rooms and on the field in the days when players purchased their own equipment and whites. The only uniform available to junior players at the county being a pair of overalls. We heard stories of legends such as Trueman, Tyson May and Compton along with assessments of the current stars.

The talk generated a very lively Q and A session and the meeting lasted until 11pm.

Many many thanks to Dusty for a very interesting evening.
