December Dinner

11th December 2008

Henry Olonga

CRICKET, folk songs, opera and comedy were all included in our speaker's address last night.

Some 59 members and guests met at the Queens for our annual Christmas Dinner and we were treated to a superb talk cum cabaret by that great Zimbabwean cricketer, Henry Olonga.

Managing to skirt round the evil regime which caused him to quit his country (just a fleeting mention), Henry treated us to a very funny account of his career, interspersed with arias from Tosca and Turandot, with the Londonderry Air thrown in for good measure. All this fully accompanied by backing tapes.

Surely this was one of our best ever nights and the Society would like to thank Henry and his lovely wife for such an entertaining evening with a hope that it will not be too long before he visits us again.

We would also like to thank all those members who donated prizes for the raffle, which was such a huge success.

The Society would like to express their thanks to Henry and his wife for coming and providing such a great evening of entertainment.
